MNECD Subcommittee on Curriculum Development

From October 3, 1998 to October 10, 2000 the Subcommittee on Curriculum Development has devoted itself to achieving the major tasks outlined in the ACN Medical Nutrition Education Curriculum Development (MNECD) White Paper.

A dedicated working group including Drs. Connie Bales, Douglas Heimburger, Steven Zeisel, Brian Tobin and Ms. Claudia Plaisted drafted, edited and developed the White Paper and it's contents late in 1998 and Spring of 1999. Since that time many MNECD committee members have been actively involved in contributing to this document including Drs. Darwin Deen, Dileep Sachan, Robert Acuff, and Jeanne Drisko.

This effort is the culmination of the collective efforts of many individuals, who have voluntarily, and without remuneration contributed their time and wisdom, to create a document we believe will be useful for enhancing the growth of nutrition education in medical education.

The committee expresses its appreciation to Dr. George Brewer, who conceived the idea of the committee, for his excellent guidance during this effort, to Dr. Stanley Wallach, Executive Director of the American College of Nutrition, for his efforts on behalf of the committee, and the entire Board of Directors of the ACN for their support and encouragement of this work.

The ACN White Paper and it's completed tasks are enclosed in the CD-ROM document that follows. This is a living document. If you find errors, or wish to make additions or suggestions, please feel free to contact Dr. Brian Tobin via Email.

We at ACN and MNECD hope you will be able to use this document to further the success of existing medical nutrition education programs, develop new programs, and network with other biomedical professionals of like mind. Our common goal, is to improve the status of nutrition in the practice of medicine, and thus, improve healthcare delivery to citizens world wide, through effective evidence-based nutrition education.
