Administration/Clinic at Ned McWherter Hall (Building #52) - (located on the campus of ETSU Quillen College of Medicine at the Mountain Home Veteran's Administration Campus) is the administration building for the Department and houses academic offices of full time faculty. The offices of the chair, Medical Student Course Director, Residency Training Director and Residency Coordinator are located here. |

Gwen Fleming Research Laboratory - The Fleming Research Facility laboratory is adjacent to Laboratories for the Depts. of Physiology and Anatomy within the newly constructed Stanton-Gerber Hall (located on the campus of ETSU Quillen College of Medicine at the Mountain Home Veteran's Administration Campus). Laboratory equipment includes: tissue culture incubator with clean bench, immunoanalysis (ELISA, Western blotting) equipment, scintillation counting, tissue preparation equipment, ultracold storage, chemistry benches/ supplies (with chemical hood), molecular biology equipment (personal PCR machines) & DNA/RNA isolation/manipulation equipment. Clinical Research space is also available in the Psychiatry Clinic's Clinical Research Lab. |

Mountain Home Veterans Administration Hospital - MHVA, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a large facility consisting of 57 buildings, including a 446-bed acute care hospital. The VA has an 80-bed inpatient and outpatient psychiatic service consisting of a 42-bed psychiatric unit and a 38-bed substance abuse treatment unit. This service is accredited by the Joint Commission for Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO). A significant number of the inpatient activities, as well as outpatient clinics, take place at the VA, in addition to numerous elective activities. Additionally, the Mountain Home VA is located atop a beautifully landscaped hill that overlooks the ETSU campus and onward to nearby Buffalo Mountain. |

Woodridge Psychiatric Hospital - Woodridge Hopital is a 75 bed psychiatric hospital, fully accredited by the Joint Commission for Acreditation of Health Care Organizations. As the primary facility in the region accepting mental health commitments, it offers experience with the most severely mentally ill patients. In addition, it is structured to accommodate private practice patients and is the location of the University Inpatient Services. Additionally, it offers a child and adolescent unit and substance abuse treatment. |

Johnson City Medical Center - JCMC is a 400-bed JCAHO-accredited full-service, not for profit community hospital adjacent to Woodridge, the VA and the Quillen College of Medicine. Consultation liaison psychiatric rotations as well as primary care rotations, neurology services and emergency psychiatry activities, take place at this facility. |

Indian Path Pavilion - The Pavilion is a JCAHO-accredited 48 bed psychiatric hospital located in Kingsport, Tennessee adjacent to Indian Path Hospital. This hospital is a primary site for the University Psychiatry in-patient service, and is a major teaching site for both Psychiatry residents and medical students. Also available at this hospital are a variety of intensive outpatient programs. |

| Frontier Health, Inc. which provides outpatient training for residents of psychiatry and medical student clerks is a regional, not-for-profit organization which provides a variety of public and private services in the areas of mental health, family violence, mental retardation, vocational rehabilitation, and substance abuse. The corporation is a regional leader in providing comprehensive rural human services to counties in Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee. | |
Family Medicine - Dept. of Family Med - Although internal medicine and pediatrics are generally available to residents requesting such activities as a part of their primary care rotations, the typical resident will train in our strong family medicine department. The Quillen College of Medicine was formed in an effort to respond to the rural and underserved medical needs of the region, and although Johnson City has now grown into a major medical community, the original charter has formed the basis for an extremely strong family medicine and primary care presence within the region. We have the advantage of a very close collegial relationship with the Department of Family Medicine. |

Tri-State Mountain Neurology - is a private practive group which provides rotation and education in neurology. The group is comprised of four board certified neurologists. The clinical and didactic education in neurology by this group has consistently received excellent ratings from our psychiatric residents rotating through this service. |

ETSU Counseling Center - The ETSU Counseling Center, located on the main campus of ETSU, offers psychotherapy, personal and educational counseling to all ETSU students. A variety of structured group programs and workshops are offered each semester. Training opportunities include assertiveness training, support groups for adult children of alcoholics and those with eating disorders, information on study skills, time management, desicion-making, and others. |

Libraries: ETSU Libraries - Residents' and Medical Students have full accsess to the Quillen College of Medicine Medical Library (on the VA Campus), and the ETSU Sherrod Library, MH VA Medical Library and a small Departmental Library (devoted exclusively to psychiatric and behavorial sciences materials). |

Research Opportunities - Residents interested in conducting Psychiatric research may enroll in a Research Track (Elective) that runs throughout their training. Guidance, specialized training, facility support is provided by the Research Director. Residents are introduced to potential faculty mentors and encouraged (and financially supported) to follow their own Psychiatric research projects. |

Grand Rounds (see Announcements)- The department sponsors a weekly didactic departmental seminar series which covers a wide range of Psychiatric issues and basic research. Speakers include invited guests chosen from the leaders in the field. Departmental faculty and Residents are asked to present one time per year. |

Computer Facilities - The department provides computers for the faculty and residents. This system is fully integrated with the ETSU system. ETSU provides maintence and software support for our system. Electronic communications are available within all facilities utilized by the department as well as fast connection to the internet, other universities and organizations. Training in basic and advanced "computer literacy" is provided to all 1st and 2nd year (PGY1 & PGY2 residents). |
