The Department of Psychiatry is chaired by Merry N. Miller, M.D. and the Residency Program Director is Hetal K. Brahmbhatt, M.D.  The department is located near the main campus of ETSU, on the campus of the Mountain Home VA in Johnson City, Tennessee.  For more information on the department, please visit the Department Overview page.

In 1994 Ned R. McWherter Hall was named for the former Speaker of the Tennessee House of Representatives who had, on March 12, 1974 given the deciding vote that overrode Governor Dunn's veto of the bill that funded the founding of ETSU medical school.  Speaker McWherter went on to become Governor of Tennessee in 1986.
